Back in my day, there all different styles of music that people enjoyed. There was trance/dance also called techno, grunge, country, hard rock, heavy metal, soft rock, hip hop/rap, alternative rock, etc. Being the musical person that I am, I liked a little bit of all of them. However,, I would say my most favorite would be the post grunge type of music. I Like sitting back and listening to the music of Nickelback, Seether, Puddle of Mudd, Shinedown, Theory of a Deadman, 3 Doors Down just to mention a few.
The styles of the music I mentioned differed quite a bit in my day. However, there were similarities between several of the styles. For instance, a lot of the country music did sound somewhat similar to certain rock music because had the same type of beat. One country music artist I did like back then was Taylor Smith. Her music even though was considered country also sounded a little like soft rock music. There were several country music bands that were consisdred to be a cross-over type band. Many other types of music were similar in style such as dance music and trance both had similar beats with lots of electronic type music. Also rap and hiphop, both are very similar style. The both have a sampling, scratching sound except rap has more of a rhyming type lyrics.
The musical styles of my teenage years were similar to the music of the previous generation. I know that some of the music from the 80's and 90's sounded very similiar to the music I listen to today. For example, the 80's rock music of Deff Leppard sounds a lot like the post grunge music I listen to today. I don't think rock type music changed very much. Disco music of the 70's still sound like the dance music of the 90's.
Some of the music I like to listen to gets on the nerve of both of my parents. Although both of my parents enjoyed the rock music of the 70's & 80's, they seem to be annoyed with the type of music I like to listen to. They usually will let me listen to my music on the radio when we are all together, but I know they do not care for it much. Sometimes, I would listen to the 80's and 70's music they enjoyed.
Yes, there was quite the variety of music to listen to in my day. Although I did not like every kind of music in that period of time, I did seem to like a little bit of most styles of music. I sure that a lot kids of today might not like many of the kind of music of my generation listened to. I do try to be open minded and accept the current music of the present generation. To me, it's music that holds generations together.
